James Robertson
JAMES ROBERTSON, Set & Costume Design
Born in Deep River, Ontario, James Robertson graduated from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in 1989. He enjoyed a distinguished international career as a dancer in such companies as Charleroi Danses (Belgium), Merce Cunningham Co. (New York) and the Stephen Petronio Dance Company (New York) before moving to Toronto in 1996. Joining TDT in 1996, he was a featured dancer with the company for three years, creating major roles in such works as Vena Cava, Zuleika Oblique and Provincial Suite. Mr. Robertson's design interests led him to Toronto's International Academy of Design where his work received much recognition including two ARIDO awards and a Herman Miller Prize. From working as a designer with the acclaimed firm Yabu Pushelberg in Toronto, Mr. Robertson established James Robertson Art Consultants Inc. in 2002. He has recently been the consultant for several hotels including the Four Seasons Hotel in Tokyo and the St.Regis Hotel in San Francisco. Persephone's Lunch was his third collaboration with choreographer Christopher House. His acclaimed design for House's Severe Clear was profiled in Canadian Interiors Design Magazine in 2001.
