Reimagining Repertoire -
A Symposium on the Potential of
Repertoire in Contemporary Dance

Please join us at the Winchester Street Theatre from 1 - 3 PM on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2017 for a discussion on the creative potential of repertoire in contemporary dance practice.

The official launch of a three-year initiative by TDT, funded in part by the Metcalf Foundation, the Symposium brings together a remarkable cross-section of dance professionals: Moderator Carol Anderson, choreographer, writer and academic; Peggy Baker, choreographer, performer and artistic director of Peggy Baker Dance Projects; Amy Bowring, Director of Collections and Research at Dance Collection Danse; Brendan Healy, theatre director and artistic director of the Magnetic North Festival; Christopher House, choreographer, performer and artistic director of Toronto Dance Theatre; William Lau, artist, researcher and the founder of the Little Pear Garden Collective; and Brandy Leary, choreographer, performer and artistic director of Anandam Dance Theatre.

In our forward-thinking contemporary dance milieu, there is often little attention paid to the idea of repertoire.  In a company structure, remounting older works can be seen as a sign of stagnation. For independent choreographers, revisiting older work is a low priority when most funding structures are geared to the creation of the new. With the goal of challenging the status quo, Christopher House poses the questions: "What if our existing repertoire were more than an archive of discrete works, but also a site for continuing artistic growth? What if we were to use our repertoire as a toolbox, confronting the ephemerality of dance by using these works to inspire distillations, adaptations and responses that continue a vital conversation in our own practice and across our art form?"

The symposium is the official launch platform of Reimagining Repertoire, a multi-year initiative by Toronto Dance Theatre supported by the Metcalf Foundation.

This event is free of charge.
Refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP to info@tdt.org by Jan 11, 2017 to attend the symposium
